Mumtaz Hussain, a Pakistani-American author, poet, and filmmaker, received the coveted International Impact Book Award in New York for his short story collection "Portrait In Words," the state-run Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) announced on Monday.

International Impact Book Awards is an international platform that accepts submissions from both self-published authors and traditional publishing firms. The platform states that it supports both print and e-book formats. Since its inception in 2019, the International Impact Book honors have granted honors to 886 writers.

"Portrait in Words" is a compilation of short stories presented in novel form that explore complicated aspects of human existence and relationships from multiple perspectives.

Hussain accepted the prize on March 30 at a meeting in New York that included some of the city's most notable literary leaders.

"Pakistani-American author, poet and filmmaker Mumtaz Hussain has won the prestigious International Impact Book Award for his English book, 'Portrait in Words,'" a press release said.

According to the APP, Hussain characterized the award as "incredibly encouraging" and hoped that it will help Americans understand Pakistani society, ethos, and the untold tale of its diversity.

In the last two decades, the Pakistani-American artist has created a variety of works of art, including films, paintings, novels, and poetry collections.
